We have hit a point that it is just too frustrating to write! We chose the flooring, a nice Douglas Fir. We found a very good price, from what I thought was a very good company, Altruwood, in Oregon. Ha! Little did I know...
We ordered the flooring, and it arrived in good time. But that is where everything fell apart. The trucking company literally delivered the wood to the our curb. And so doing, one of the pallets fell off the back of the truck. Bob, our contractor, was going to have guys there to move the wood inside...but they got tied up on another job leaving Craig alone to receive the wood. Craig, not one to stand around, started hauling the flooring into the house. Bob showed up, then headed out again to pick up a couple of guys to move it inside. Think heaven for Bourget Brothers!
Part two... Javier, our floor installer, started laying out the floor and discovered that the grain on most of the longer lengths did not match the medium and shorter lengths. I was teaching a class when I got the "Call me" text from Bob. We talked. Craig was in D.C. with the Boys and Girls Club. We talked. Bob talked to the flooring company. They refused to talk to him. I talked to the flooring company. Craig talked to the flooring company. They finally agreed to replace poor quality wood. Apparently they had run out of the good stuff and sent us construction quality. It is nice to be married to an attorney sometimes!
So the good stuff arrived this past week and was left to cure in the living room. Javier can't finish the job for another week but that's ok. The bad news is that we have to move out of the bedroom for approximately 5 days (like I believe that's how long it will take!). So the bed will be moved to the back room. I hope I don't have to pee during the night!
