While we vacationed (lots of wonderful food, baseball, and art), they dug the footing and laid re-bar. Santa Monica required us to dig three feet down, lay in re-bar that is as thick as a baby's arm before pouring the cement, which, I am told, will have to be done in two pours because it is so deep! The inspector comes Monday and then cement on Tuesday.
Alex, my contractor, tells me that if there is an earthquake, the garage is the place to be. It will hold up much better than the house...
